Hi there,
What kind of cleaning should I be doing for my son's trumpet? How often?
I looked in the manual and it said something about brass soap. What is that?
Cheers

Dust and dirt will natually find their way into instruments which can reduce the performance of an instrument - especially when dirt gets into the valve casing.
About once a month I would suggest that you strip the instrument down (i.e remove tuning slides and valves - each valve should be numbered and needs to go back into the valve casing in the right place).
All you need to do is place the instrument in warm water, using a flexible brush and a valve casing brush clean the inside of the tubes.
Rinse with clean water and dry. As I am doing this daily with different instruments I have a towel dedicated for my repaired instruments.
Using a clean lint free cloth I then dry the inside of the tuning slides and valve casing before I oil/grease the instrument back together. The idea is to remove all particles of dust etc - DO NOT use a duster for this as it releases to much 'dust/fluff'.
Use valve oil on the valves and a grease on the tuning slides, a lacquer cloth or silver cloth should be used to buff appropriate finished instruments.
