20th November 2004 - 2005 We've made it through the first year - was it worth it?? I think so. From now to Christmas we will have some special instruments at the shop - each week a different manufacturer will feature a few of their more professional instruments. The're here to be played and bought so don't leave it too long! Tonight I will collect the first 'contender' - YAMAHA I will use this space each week to list the different instruments and models, and to tell you about any great deals. Even if you don't play an instrument and can't stand music it would still pay you to visit my shop on Sunday (20th), to celebrate our first year I have the worlds biggest box of Walker's Shortbread!!! (Big thanks to my Mother-in-Law)

WEEK 2 Saturday 26th - 2nd December YANAGISAWA I'm not a sax player but I have ears and I hear nothing but great feedback about these saxophones. Players love the sound - Andy, my woodwind player rates the quality of the build and the action extremely highly. Each instrument comes with a great black case and is supplied with a Yanagisawa mouthpiece, which itself has gained much positive praise. As well as the 901 brass lacquer range I also have (for a limited period only) the following: Curved SopranoSC991 - Brass Lacquered SC992 - Bronze Lacquered AltoA991S - Silver Plated A9932J - Solid Silver Crook & Bell, Bronze Body & Bow - as played by Peter King TenorT991S - Silver Plated T902 - Bronze Lacquered T992 - Bronze Lacquered T9932J - Solid Silver Crook & Bell, Bronze Body & Bow - as played by Peter King The Alto A9932J is a limited edition saxophone. Howarth Oboes 'The S10 is our student oboe, recommended by leading teachers and Music Services throughout the UK. It is light in weight and has covered keys, making it ideal for the younger student with smaller hands. The S10 has similar advantages to the more advanced models, such as an excellent tone and reliable tuning yet it is comparably inexpensive. The S10 is supplied in a quality, robust case with cleaning equipment, cork grease and a reed case. The natural progression from the S10, the S20 is exceptionally good value for money. This intermediate series instrument easily meets the needs of playing up to Grade 8 and beyond. The S20 is also light in weight and is suitable for accomplished young players. It includes certain key features, such as semi-automatic octaves, which are essential for playing at an advanced level. The S20 is supplied in a quality hard case with cleaning materials and accessories.' Howarth

Schilke Trumpets B Series Bb TrumpetModel B1 Bb TrumpetBore: ML -.460" (11.68 mm) Bell: L – 5" (127.00 mm) Yellow Brass Bell with #1 taper The B1 was the preferred Bb trumpet of Renold Schilke and the basis in design for the other B series instruments. Distinguished by its free and open feel, this trumpet is among our most popular models, allowing the player the diversity in sound color from a rich, full bodied dark sound to a brilliant ringing tone when desired. S Series Bb TrumpetRetaining the same response and excellent intonation that is characteristic of the “B” and “X” series models, the "S" series play with a compact, focused, resonate center to the sound. Distinguished by the bell construction, bracing, and different mouth pipe and tuning slide design, the “S” series instruments emphasize the sound core and are ideal for both classical and commercial performance. All “S” series trumpet models share the same bell, which is referred to as a ML bell or a #2 bell. The bell has the same taper as the bell used on the B5 but utilize a yellow brass bell with a soldered bell bead. This feature helps with the sound focus and emphasizes the resonant core of the sound at the louder dynamic levels. The “S” series Main Tuning Slide has a semi-square shaped bow with a brace providing additional resistance and sound focus rather than the rounded “brace-less” slide on the “B” and “X” series models. Model S22 Bb TrumpetBore: L -.463" (11.75 mm) Bell: ML – 5" (127.00 mm) Yellow Brass Bell with #2 taper This large bore model provides an excellent focus in sound with an emphasis center of tone and slotting security. The S22 is ideal for the player that desires the ease of response of a Schilke instrument with slightly more resistance than the X3 model. X Series Bb TrumpetModel X3 Bb TrumpetBore: L -.463" (11.75 mm) Bell: L – 5" (127.00 mm) Yellow Brass Bell with #1 taper This large bore model plays big and broad. The X3 allows the player to achieve a dark, rich sound with maximum projection and a balance that allows an “even feel” throughout the range of the instrument.
